Gum Disease Diagnosis & Treatment

Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of gum disease - from early gingivitis to advanced periodontal conditions.

Gum disease is one of the most common dental conditions and a leading cause of tooth loss in adults - yet it often develops silently, without obvious pain. It begins as gingivitis (red, swollen, bleeding gums) and, if left untreated, can progress to periodontitis, where the bone supporting your teeth is gradually destroyed. We assess gum health at every routine visit, measuring pocket depths and checking for signs of inflammation or recession.

Treatment ranges from thorough professional cleaning for early cases to more targeted therapy for patients with moderate to advanced disease. We also provide guidance on home care routines and maintenance schedules to keep gum disease from returning.

What This Involves

  • Periodontal Probing & Assessment
  • Full-Mouth Charting
  • Antimicrobial Therapy
  • Gum Health Maintenance Plans
  • Patient Education & Home Care Guidance

Deep Scaling & Root Planing

Thorough cleaning below the gumline to remove tartar, bacteria, and infected tissue from periodontal pockets.

When gum disease progresses beyond what a routine cleaning can address, deep scaling and root planing provides a more thorough, targeted treatment. The procedure involves cleaning below the gumline to remove tartar deposits, bacteria, and toxins from the root surfaces of affected teeth. Root planing smooths the root surface, making it more difficult for bacteria to reattach and allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth.

The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia for comfort, and may be completed in one or two visits depending on the extent of disease. Follow-up appointments assess healing and determine whether further treatment is needed.

What This Involves

  • Subgingival Scaling
  • Root Surface Debridement
  • Ultrasonic Instrumentation
  • Hand Instrumentation
  • Local Anaesthesia
  • Healing Assessment

Gum Reshaping & Crown Lengthening

Recontouring the gumline for cosmetic improvement or to expose more tooth structure for restorative treatment.

Gum reshaping and crown lengthening are procedures that modify the position of the gum tissue around one or more teeth. Cosmetic gum reshaping corrects a "gummy smile" or uneven gumline by carefully removing excess tissue to reveal more of the natural tooth crown, creating a more balanced, proportionate appearance. Functional crown lengthening is performed when a tooth is broken or decayed below the gumline and there is not enough tooth structure exposed for a crown or restoration to hold onto.

By gently repositioning the gum and sometimes a small amount of bone, we expose enough healthy tooth structure to support a proper restoration.

What This Involves

  • Cosmetic Gum Contouring
  • Functional Crown Lengthening
  • Soft Tissue Management
  • Bone Recontouring (when needed)
  • Precise Margin Placement
  • Healing & Follow-Up
